Its straight up and cut!

A Progressing Ummah Vs A Depressing Ummah

by Bint Abdul Khaliq

Some like to call this a progressing Ummah, but I think we should call it a depressing Ummah. With the amount of unhappiness, melancholy and insecurities going around,we just have no time anymore to worry about things that matter…

Like why we were created for instance. What is our purpose in life? Our Goals? Aims? Ambitions? We are too locked up in our own world of self pity and dejection to ponder on these things. Yet the answer to all our problems lies in them.shaitaan has gotten the upper hand once again. Can we imagine his glee?Take away their hope in life, their enthusiasm for their deen, their connection to their Creator-then what easy catches they shall be!

And so the seconds tick away..

We could have used those very seconds to build up our connection with our Creator, Allah Ta’ala. We could have used them to move one step ahead in fulfilling our purpose of creation.

But we don’t see that happening. We have this flame of Iman burning inside us but we fail to use it as a torch to guide us along this dark and frightening pathway. We have the answers right here with us but we cannot see it. Everything has been included in our perfect religion. Nothing has been left out. The answers are most certainly with us.

Do we have the Tawakkul that our Creator can help us? As Muslims our answer will be yes-definitely. That is very easy to say,but do we believe it truly in our hearts? If we did then why would we turn to everyone else but Him? We are prepared to pay for advice,medicines,gadgets-anything-to take away our fears, our worries, our stress.Yet all these things will only work, can only work, if Allah wills them to.All power belongs only to Him.Everything works under His command.

Then there’s the question of WHAT we are worrying about. We need to really sit down and ponder. Is worth it? ALLAH is listening to my thoughts right now, will HE be pleased with them? From what we think and worry about-grow our actions. Our actions determine our success or failure. A true Mu’mins worry will be revolving around the pleasure of Our Rabb. We need to review each of our worries to see if it falls into this category. Does a Mu’min have time for unnecessary worldly qualms? Grudges? Iinsecuritie? No he does not.He knows his purpose in life and lives to fulfill it.

More and more Muslims are commiting suicide today. It’s a scary fact. They gave up hope.Something which Allah Ta’ala gives us every reason not to do so. Allah in His Grandeur and Beneficence is always there for those who are sincere. He loves us more than our own mothers. There is no reason to lose hope.By losing hope,we are falling in the clutches of shaitaan, who is waiting for that second to pull us down. It is only with Hope in Allah and steadfastness and zeal for our Deen that we can combat our enemy. Allah says that he is to His servants as they think of Him.

It is up to us.Do we want to change our lives or do we want to stay chained in our shackles of depression that we have imprisoned ourselves in. How do we unlock these chains? It’s Simple. Follow the Qur’aan and Sunnah as it ought to be followed . It almost sounds too simple, but Wallahi if we do this, we will be free.We will be happy. We will be content. That’s what we all want,so let us take the step make the effort. Then whatever comes in our way-we will be able to deal with it. Problems, stress and tribulations will never go away.We are being tested in this world remember. What makes the difference is our Attitude…

And what better attitude to look up to,than that of our Beloved Nabi (SAWS).Mercy,Sabr,Courage,Humility,Generosity,Taqwa-any good quality you can name-he had it.He was The best of mankind yet what tremendously trying times he had to undergo! He had to deal with sadness, challenges and tests like no-one has ever experienced. Yet with what charisma he dealt with each of them, can only leave us speechless in admiration. The Qur’an has directed us to this:

“Certainly you have in the Messenger of Allah an excellent exemplar for him who hopes in Allah and the latter day and remembers Allah much.” (033.021)

Our beloved Nabi (SAWS) is our perfect example. What we need to do now is to live as he lived.Eat as he ate. Talk he talked. Behave as he behaved. Step for step we need to follow the path that he has left for us. And then we will never get lost in this dark and frightening place. It is not hard, but it requires effort. We need to find out HOW the Prophet (SAWS) behaved so we need to study the Sunnah. Then we need to implement the Sunnah in our lives.Little by little, step by step-and most certainly we will be on the road to success.Look at the zeal that the Sahaabah (RA) had for Islam and Life in general, and they were certainly an embodiment of the Sunnah in every way.Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him.

Allah has not made life hard for us. It is we who complicate matters. And if we agree to submit to Allah in every facet of our life, we will love our life. We will inspire others. We will be beacons of light in a dark and evil society. We will love whatever we do,because it will be done for Allah’s love. With this kind of Iman kindling inside us and which such intensity to benefit mankind…

We will truly be a Progressing Ummah.

Insha Allah.

Freedom Of The Heart

Assalamualaykum WaRahmatuAllah

Firstly apologies for the lack of original posts, just been busy with things.
————————————————————————————-

I’ve been trying for the past few months to concentrate on essential self tarbiyah, mostly purification of the heart.
Its been an interesting time, learning how to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and completely trying to keep the heart free from ill feeling towards anybody, even those who seem to deliberately set out to hurt or screw you over.

Trying to abide by these simple rules;

“Keep your heart free from hate, your mind from worry. Live simply, expect little. Give much, smile often, pray always to Allah. Fill your life with love. Treat people as you’d like to be treated by them.”

Let me try and take this apart bit by bit.

1. Keep your heart free from hate.

Some-times its an instant reaction, I hate this, I hate that or I hate him/her.
What is hate though?
According to Wki it is :

Hatred is an emotion of intense revulsion, distaste, enmity, or antipathy for a person, thing, or phenomenon, generally attributed to a desire to avoid, restrict, remove, or destroy the hated object. Hatred is also among the most common emotions that humans experience. It can be based on fear of an object or past negative consequences of dealing with that object.

The way I’ve come to see it though is that this feeling of hate what does it give a person? Does it benefit anyone in anyway? Think long and hard, for years all hate has caused is hurt, pain and conflict!
I would say just solely freeing a heart from hatred for any type of thing gives it a freedom like no other.
In the words of a quote a dear friend of mine loves saying;

“Why should we hate when there isn’t enough time for loving!”

2.Free your mind from worry.

What is worry?

Worry refers to negative self-talk that often distracts the mind from focusing on the problem at hand. For example, when students become anxious during a test, they may repeatedly tell themselves they are going to fail, or they can’t remember the material or that their teacher will get mad at them. This thinking interferes with focusing on the test as the speech areas of the brain that are needed to complete test questions are being used for worrying.

So whats the use in worrying?
Worry makes you lose focus, it keeps you preoccupied that you have to do something, and you never get round to actually doing these things.
Having firm emaan helps get rid of worry, belief that all things good and bad are from Allah, we shouldn’t worry. Get on with life, believe in Allah and He will look after you.

3. Live simply expect little. Give Much.

This in itself is a very simple sentence, yet why is it so hard to implement?

Simplicity is the property, condition, or quality of being simple or un-combined. It often denotes beauty, purity or clarity. Simple things are usually easier to explain and understand than complicated ones. Simplicity can mean freedom from hardship, effort or confusion

Need I say more, the above says it all. When living simply it frees the mind, because the more of a complex life and materialistic life one tries to live, it takes over the mind and leaves it at un-rest all the time.

Expect less … Firstly in this I would say never expect gratitude from anybody, when you do some-thing for some-one never expect a thank you or kind action back in return. Not expecting things means that you are not leaving any part of you open to hurt or disappointment should it not come to be.

4. Smile often, pray always to Allah.

Smile : Click Here

Prayer to Allah should be a constant thing, not a default when all things go wrong, every day, even for 10-15 minutes, we should take the time to talk to Allah. Thank him for all that is good and make dua for the not so good.
He is always there listening, we may forget him, but he never forgets us.
Turn to Allah and witness the difference it makes!

4. Fill your life with love.

Love on its own has no straight up definition.
But Love is a bond which connects people, where there is sincerity in actions and speech.
Firstly our lives must be filled with love of Allah and His Messenger (saw), all our actions in the path of Allah sincere.
Then love for those whom Allah has bestowed love upon us with, our families.
Family (Mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters), these are the people who should have first priority in our lives.
Knowing your life is filled with love, gives a sense of security that even if all else fails you have people to turn to that even if they may not be able to help you materialistically but they will always help and support you emotionally.

A man is carved by the relationships he holds with those most dear to him.

If he treats those whom he loves coldly then what hope is there for others?

5. Treat people as you would like to be treated by them.

Imagine if you made a mistake, and for that one thing you did you were hated forever.
As you would not like this done to you never do it to another person.
Learn to forgive and put things in the past, remember 70 excuses for a Muslim.
Its normal, people will hurt you, but why give satisfaction that they have bought you down. Be the better one and move on making dua for them.
Remember all is pre-destined by Allah and we never know what things in life no matter how small or big they will be, could be our test.

Always learn to help people, even if you don’t particularly like the person or people or its a task you do not like. Put the dislike behind and do it, for you never know that when you help some one whose dua could help you in the long run.

Alhumdulillah though, I have to say the freedom the heart feels is amazing, we know that all is pre-destined, yet have we realised it.
When we realise and live this fact is when no-matter what happens to us doesn’t phase us, We learn to thank Allah for all the good, and make dua to him during the times or trial.
Even when things go down hill and don’t work out how we want, we know that it is all in Allah’s master plan, that he has some-thing better planned, and our continuous prayers to him help ease the pain as we know he is always there listening.

In need of your constant duas always.

SMILE!!!!

She smiled at a sorrowful stranger. The smile seemed to make him feel better.

He remembered past kindness of a friendAnd wrote him a thank you letter.

The friend was so pleased with the thank youThat he left a large tip after lunch.

The waitress, surprised by the size of the tip,Gave part to a man on the street.

The man on the street was grateful; For two days he'd had nothing to eat.

After he finished his dinner,He left for his small dingy room.

He didn't know at that momentthat he might be facing his doom.

On the way he picked up a shivering puppyAnd took him home to get warm.

The puppy was very gratefulTo be in out of the storm.

That night the house caught on fire. The puppy barked the alarm.

He barked till he woke the whole householdAnd saved everybody from harm.

One of the boys that he rescuedGrew up to be President.

All this because of a simple smileThat hadn't cost a cent.

...and THAT is the power of a smile! So smile away :)

The Messenger of Allah, upon whom be peace, said: "Every good deed is sadaqah (charity). To meet yourbrother with a smiling face and to pour out from yourbucket into his container are sadaqah."

Speeding Through Life

SPEEDING THROUGH LIFE

A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something.

As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag’s side door! He slammed on the brakes and drove the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown. The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, “What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That’s a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?”

The young boy was apologetic. “Please mister… please, I’m sorry… I didn’t know what else to do,” he pleaded. “I threw the brick because no one else would stop…” With tears dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car. “It’s my brother,” he said. “He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can’t lift him up.” Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive, “Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He’s hurt and he’s too heavy for me.”

Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the handi-capped boy back into the wheelchair, then took out his fancy handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh scrapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay.

“Thank you and May God bless you,” the grateful child told the stranger.

Too shook up for words, the man simply watched the little boy push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home.

It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to remind him of this message: Don’t go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don’t have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It’s our choice.

Jilbab & Niqab – For the dear sister who asked

Assalamualaykum WaRahmatuAllah

This post is for the sister who asked regarding, Jilbab & Niqab.
May Allah reward you sister.

I personally would say that, jilbab and niqab are two of the most beautiful forms of covering for any woman.
In a world where the norm is that wearing almost nothing is what constitutes as beauty, hijab/niqab gives women a freedom from the slave trade of fashion.
They protect a woman from the gaze of men, and hide her beauty from those who have no right upon it.

It is upon each individual how they feel they should cover, as to observe only the hijab, or include the niqab also.

Many argue that the niqab attracts more attention to the woman, and if so is the case, why should it matter, because nothing can be seen at all anyway.

I would encourage you, to follow up on your intention sister, Ask Allah for help and go for it, as when we do things for the sake of Allah, He ultimately will help us.
When we observe the hijab and niqab our ultimate goal should be to act upon what Allah has commanded and to please Him only.

If you fear that you will be ridiculed, then please put your heart at rest dear sister as, those who cause such offence will one day have to answer to Allah as we all do, the more we persevere the more our emaan grows, and the more reward we will get Insha’Allah.
Do not take to heart if others insult or degrade you, instead be the better and make dua to Allah for their guidance.

Remember there is always some-one who will find a fault with everything, like the example of the peacock, all admired its beauty, but one said ‘what ugly feet it has’. The Prophets and great people of the past were ridiculed when they stood for what is true and right, and they were the greatest people to walk on earth.
So have Patience and persevere, keep your heart pure and Insha’Allah all good things in both worlds will come to you.

I used the following to answer your question to quote the relevant Ayah and Ahadeeth;
http://muttaqun.com/niqab.html

also please take a look at

http://www.muhajabah.com/niqab-index.htm

From the Quran:

Al-Ahzab 33:59

O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils)* all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

From the Ahadeeth.

HadithBukhari 1:148

The wives of the Prophet used to go to Al-Manasi, a vast open place (near Baqia at Medina) to answer the call of nature at night. ‘Umar used to say to the Prophet “Let your wives be veiled,” but Allah’s Apostle did not do so. One night Sauda bint Zam’a the wife of the Prophet went out at ‘Isha‘ time and she was a tall lady. ‘Umar addressed her and said, “I have recognized you, O Sauda.” He said so, as he desired eagerly that the verses of Al-Hijab (the observing of veils by the Muslim women) may be revealed. So Allah revealed the verses of “Al-Hijab” (A complete body cover excluding the eyes).

The above mentioned Ayah and Hadith, explain the necessity of women to cover themselves.
By covering it is meant a modest dress, where the shape and figure of a woman can not be seen.
As in the following Hadith;

HadithAbu Dawud, Narrated Dihyah ibn Khalifah al-Kalbi
The Apostle of Allah was brought some pieces of fine Egyptian linen and he gave me one and said: Divide it into two; cut one of the pieces into a shirt and give the other to your wife for veil. Then when he turned away, he said: And order your wife to wear a garment below it and not show her figure.

Firstly the injunction is to cover the bosom, this includes the hair up to the waist, then after that the clothing should still be loose in order not to show the figure of the woman.

Jilbab is the easiest method to do this, as its is a long loose cloak which covers the woman from neck to toe.

As opposed to the contrary black in colour jilbabs, all colours can be worn, as long as it is not for vanity.

As far as niqab is concerned, it is reported that the Wives of the Prophet (saw) observed niqab. Thus making it halal for women to wear.
It is not obligatory how ever as is Hijab.

So, whether agreeing that niqab is required or not, one must surely acknowledge that it is a desirous sign of piety. What better example of sunnah to follow for a muslimah than that of the Prophet and his wives RA. Every Muslimah is encouraged to cover to the fullest, showing only one or both eyes.

May Allah reward your efforts dear sister in Islam, May Allah guide you and help you follow the Sunnah of the Prophet (saw) and his wives. Ameen

May Allah (swt) forgive me for my short comings, and make me better than what others think of me.

In need of your constant duas as always.

WaAlaykumAssalam WaRahmatuAllah

PS: I deleted your comment, because I addressed what you asked :)
