*During a lesson about Iymaan*

Me: Iymaan is to firmly believe with the heart and soul ….
Student: What is a soul?
Me: It’s a part of us that we can’t see, but it is the main part, It lives on even after we die.
Student: Cool. Apa what does a soul look like?
Me: Nobody has ever seen it, so we don’t know.
Student: Apa if you go on google you might find it.
Student 2: Only Allah (SWT) knows what it looks like.
Me: Yeah, but Allah (SWT) doesnt post on google

Just one more gem from my days as a teacher …

  1. Abdul Jawad Said,

You should’ve quoted to them the following Quranic verse:

They are asking thee concerning the Spirit. Say: The Spirit is by command of my Lord, and of knowledge ye have been vouchsafed but little.
    (Holy Qur’an: The Night Journey; v. 85)

The word “Ruh” has been used in Holy Qur’an in two forms—one to mean “spirit”, the other to denote ‘Arch-angel Jibrael (AS)’

Well, Allah (SWT) (SWT) Alone Knows concerning the ‘spirit’.

    Br. Abdul Jawad

  2. Abdul Jawad Said,

I guess, here what you meant by soul is ‘nafs’. Am I right?

Then, the least you can say about the ‘nafs’ is of its distinct aspects:

    - Al-Nafs Al-Ammara (The Sinful Soul)
    - Al-Nafs Al-Lawwama (The Lamenting Soul)
    - Al-Nafs Al-Mutma’inna (The Satisfied Soul)

    Br. Abdul Jawad

  3. Radiant Light Said,

We were talking about believing with the heart and soul, I did explain to them that when we talk about soul we mean our own ruh and at times the nafs, alhumdulillah they seemed to understand.
